Where is Caernarfon?
The town is in Gwynedd, Wales and can be found on the A487 road. It is opposite Anglesey on the Menai Strait, surrounded by Snowdonia National Park. The closest city is Bangor, which is roughly 8.5 miles away.

The fortress-palace on the Seiont River’s banks is included with the other Edward’s castles in Conwy, Beaumaris and Harlech as an official World Heritage Site. However, for sheer grandeur and architectural drama, Caernarfon is a stand-alone attraction.

Caernarfon Harbour
Caernarfon Harbour is a beautiful point located on the shores of the Menai Strait. Fort Segontium
The Romans also left their mark on the town. They had built their fort Segontium on the top of the hill (its foundations are still in place). The first, built nearly two millennia back, was strategically located and was bustling with activity for over three hundred years. The purpose of the place was to accommodate a 1000-strong army of auxiliary foot soldiers; it was connected via Roman roadways to the main legionary base in Chester and Caerleon.

Hwylfan Fun Centre
Known as the largest indoor play area in North Wales, the fun centre has two massive slide rides, swinging ropes, a dark maze and tumble tower, and spinning discs. They cater for toddlers to 12 years old and even adults, as they cater for kids, teenagers and adults’ birthday parties or events.
Families with children have an under 5’s Soft Play Area, 5 years and up play, a Cafe, Go Karts, Laser shooting and a patio. Therefore, there is a lot of fun at the Fun Centre. It is one of the best things to do in Caernarfon for people who want to celebrate and families.
Lon Eifion Recreational Cycle Route
This traffic-free scenic route runs from Caernarfon to Bryncir alongside the Welsh Highland Railway. It offers stunning views of Caernarfon Bay, Snowdonia and other areas. It starts near Caernarfon Castle and climbs to 152m (552ft) in 10 miles.
It reaches its highest point at a radio mast south of Penygroes. After that, it descends gently to Bryncir. It is easily one of the best things to do in Caernarfon.

Welsh Highland Railway
One of the most memorable things in Caernarfon is riding the iconic steam train. The Welsh Highland Railway is the longest heritage line. It runs for 25 miles beginning at Caernarfon. It continues past the base of Snowdon and the picturesque village of Beddgelert before passing through the breathtaking Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog.

Waterside Victoria Dock/ Doc Fictoria
You’ll find bars, cafes, and restaurants at Doc Victoria, the Galeri art centre and the local archives. You can relax and enjoy the sea air here in these modern developments. It is a great place to walk and browse the different boats in the marina.

Airworld Aviation Museum
The Airworld Aviation Museum is on the airfield of an earlier RAF Llandwrog. The museum houses an impressive collection of aviation-related memorabilia and aircraft.
You can see a close-up of iconic aircraft like The Hawker Hunter, D.H. Vampire, and the sole T2 BAe Harrier left worldwide.
A portion of the museum is dedicated to the founding of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, which was established on RAF Llandwrog in 1942. Other sections provide information on the airfields used during wartime in North Wales. The gift shop offers models and other items. Parking for cars is free on site. It is one of the unique things to do in Caernafon.

Six miles from Caernarfon, you can visit Dinas Dinlle Beach, a sand and pebble beach best enjoyed at low tide. The beach has wonderful views of Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula. You might be lucky enough to see dolphins, porpoises, and an Iron Age hill fort on the cliffside.
Beddlegert, Beddgelert Forest and Gelert’s Grave
Outside of Caernarfon, you can find the beautiful Beddgelert village, in a valley surrounded by wonderful mountains and hills. The bridge in the village centre is gorgeous and undoubtedly one of the main attractions.
There are lots of things to do, and one of the must-do activities is walking to Gelert’s Grave, which is a walk by the Afon Glaslyn to a stone monument in his honour. Prince Llywelyn killed him as it was believed that he had killed a child, but actually, he had saved it from a wolf.
